An outing that Troop 601 does yearly is a bike trip to West Hills Park. Our scouts have a great time on this trip

Boy Scouts from Troop 601 and any Cub Scouts (with parent or adult leaders) who
want to come along. |
When: |
We leave on a Saturday morning from the CVS Parking Lot in South Farmingdale
We leave to return to the CVS Sunday morning after breakfast. |
Where: |
West Hills County Park, Melville New York |
How: |
By Bicycle. The Troop travels North along the Bethpage Bike Path to the end and
then on to local streets until arriving at West Hills Park. We leave at about 9:00
A.M. and arrive at the park at about 1:00 P.M. On Sunday we leave the park after
breakfast at about 9:30 A.M. and return to the CVS parking lot in South Farmingdale.
The only things you have to bring with you on the bicycle ride is lunch. All of the tents,
packs and equipment will be transported to the park by truck. |
At the Park: |
Once at the park, we set up camp and relax a little. Then, activities. These can range from a pickup game
of baseball or ultimate frisbee to orienteering and knot tying. After dinner is usually a campfire with some
"round the fire" type games. |
Meals: |
Lunch on Saturday will be a bag lunch provided by each participant. Well stop along
the way and eat lunch. Supper on Saturday night will be burgers and hot dogs cooked
on a grill. Breakfast on Sunday morning will be cold cereal, bagels and juice. |
Cost: |
TBD, Covers the cost of burgers, hot dogs, cereal, bagels, juice and the camping fee
we pay to Suffolk County for use of the park. |
